Jason Helton: Attitudes Need Adjusting

This is going to be a bit of a grumpy article but I think its appropriate for this point in Aussie wrestling and I think it needs to be said. The stupidity of the people involved is getting a bit out of control. Let me correct myself the stupidity of people who are on the outskirts trying to be involved is getting out of control. Its ridiculous how self important people and trying to weasel their way into the business or try and grab attention away from the wrestlers and onto themselves through their podcasts or antics in the crowd. The thinking that you see going around Australia is pretty lame. They want to draw attention to themselves by sitting around a microphone drinking and telling in jokes and making jokes about people in Australian wrestling. They call people names and push the boundaries or good taste and decency and make each other laugh. They bully and torment people and if they get any complaints they belittle and abuse them some more. Then they go and do something like publicly calling Mason Childs a pedophile. Mason handled it with a lot of class and decency but it was a terrible slight to his character and decency as a human being. Mason called him out on it and got a response of "Sorry it was just a joke" I wrote to Mason and told him well done for sticking up for himself and sticking to his guns.
Too many people in Aussie wrestling take a stand against this kind of thing until they get a booking. Poor John Dee from SWA was called every name in the book by a few wrestlers and managers he fired. They would come to shows and try and disrupt them even charging the dressing room trying to fight other wrestlers. JD hired a few of them back and suddenly SWA is the best fed in NSW and anyone who speaks up against SWA is an idiot even if they are just repeating what they themselves said about JD 2 weeks before. Anyway back to Mason Childs all of a sudden after given Mason Childs my support and against the charge of being a pedophile in the minds of Masons accuser I became the one to blame for the whole incident instead of the one who started the Mason Childs is a pedophile rumor. If it makes them feel better I will be their scapegoat but Im pretty sure they know they are being stupid. They just aren't man enough to accept they made a mistake. Those who don't learn from the past is bound to repeat it. I imagine they will push another decent man like Mason Childs too far and have to pay the consequences again. I wonder who they will blame for their idiocy this time.
Speaking of pushing their luck some of these guys are really pushing their luck with the way they treat the older wrestlers in Australia. I faced it enough myself but its spreading around to almost everyone who wrestled back when Aussie wrestling had talent all over the place. I think these people think if they can shut up the veterans from the early 2000 who had grive ambition and most of all talent that their opinions will take on a lot more weight and people will listen to them like they know what they are talking about. John Howarth, Mark Mercedes, Rob Matrix and a whole lot of other guys from those days have had their work belittled lately. They are looking back with Rose colored glasses when talking about the late 90s and early 2000s. AWF sold out the Panthers with 600 plus. UCW sold out the Thebby theater with over a thousand. People were coming to watch the shows and they were leaving satisfied with the product. These guys were able to draw fans and back it up with their performances. Now the guys trying to be the new veterans spouting their opinions say those guys weren't successful and they weren't good. The guys today are fitter and more athletic. They do more fancy moves these days. This is probably true but they don't have the psychology to make it interesting and if a veteran tries to help them out with psychology they are put down for being jealous of the new guys. If the older guys don't mention anything because they see how the guys who speak up are treated they are also put down for not helping out the new guys. Its a catch 22 for the older guys and either way they are ridiculed. I was called out for not wanting to drive to Sydney to work with someone who was giving me hassles.
I was called unprofessional and other names for not coming down to do the show. Now the same person who was giving me such a bad name for not driving down to work is now doing the exact same thing and he doesn't see the hypocrisy of it. Its always do as I say not as I do with these people. On a few of these boards I have heard people say if guys like Roy Heffernan or Pickford were still around with their old school thinking a lot of people would get slapped and there are argument on who would be the one getting slapped. I will tell you something if they did come back and slap people I hope the people slapped would wake up to themselves and learn a lesson better than the people I have slapped a little old school into. I always took reprimands as an opportunity to learn. Kids these days take it as an opportunity to be a martyr and whine.
Another thing that others me is the notion of the grand competition in Aussie wrestling. NPW has started up in Newcastle and some people in SWA aren't happy. Same with the Melbourne and Sydney promotions. People treating other wrestlers and promoters as enemies. Its ridiculous. If The New York Yankees and New York Mets can coexist for 162 games a year with billions of dollars at stake with their stadiums 15 km apart I cant see what the big problem is with Aussie wrestling promotion competing maybe 10 times a year for much less money. Most feds run only once a month. That's 12 days a promotion could run and if they only choose to run one out of twelve days who can blame someone else who wants to scoop up one of the other 11 and make a go of it themselves. They waste time spending time energy and money trying to hurt the other promotions than improving their own. If you start making enough money to pay the wrestlers enough to be exclusive to your own company then you can start thinking about closing other companies and taking away days for the wrestlers to work. I personally would tell my wrestlers to keep the one day a month I need them to wrestle on my show free but go out and get as much experience as possible. Just imagine if a guy could go out and wrestle for you one month and then come back a month later after wrestling Slex, Rob Matrix and TNT How much better would he be for your next show? There really isn't any competition in Aussie wrestling except for in the minds of these over inflated egos who think they are Vince McMahon and far too much time and energy is wasted trying to emulate him. There are many talented and driven people in Aussie wrestling and they deserve to have a guy like Vince McMahon leading them. Vince McMahon is an asshole. Hes an asshole who is driven and hardworking. He is single minded in his goals and strives everyday to achieve them. He dreams big and is optimistic about what he can achieve. He focuses and what his business needs and he does what he feels is best for his business. He finds and works with the right people for his business even if he doesn't like them too much. He spends money to make money and he is willing to put all his efforts into making his company the best it can be. Hes is a great person to emulate if you want to run a wrestling company. Unfortunately too many people trying to be a part of running Aussie wrestling are just satisfied being an asshole and nothing more.
